Gyanesh Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner of India,stopped by the sacred Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, July 5, 2026. During visit,he joined Shayan Aarti and offered prayers, marking key moment in his spiritual journey .
Speaking to media, Kumar shared his gratitude for completing pilgrimage to all twelve Jyotirlingas, a vow he and wife had taken . He stressed spirituality's role in daily life,urging people to weave it into work and lives. “Today, my wife and I had the privilege of visiting and seeking blessings of Shri Omkareshwar Mahadev,” he said. “We want to tell all Indians: value spirituality in your lives and work for India's progress.”
His prayers reached out to voters nationwide . Kumar said, “We prayed to Lord Mamleshwar Mahadev for a strong,transparent democracy for all voters in India. Also prayed for good health of voters everywhere.”
This visit followed a similar pilgrimage by Droupadi Murmu, President of India, who prayed at Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar temples on June 19. She participated in religious rituals, seeking blessings for nation's welfare and prosperity. Murmu also attended event “Empowerment of Tribal Society by Spiritual Awakening,” organized by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in Betul, Madhya Pradesh .
In her speech, President Murmu stressed need for spiritual purity in a fast-paced world. She said these foundations are crucial for a lifestyle that respects natural resources. Spirituality, she pointed out,is more important than ever in a world beset by stress and conflict.
As Kumar wrapped up his visit, call for deeper spiritual ties echoed . Indian leaders increasingly promote spiritual engagement as a path to societal well-being. But will it catch on…?
