Discontent inside Left Democratic Front (LDF) grows as Communist Party of India (CPI) keeps pushing for Deputy Leader of Opposition spot in Kerala Assembly. On Sunday,CPI State assistant secretary P.P. Suneer said issue still unresolved, countering Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan's claim that demand was outdated.
Suneer, a Member of Parliament, emphasized issue can't be dismissed so easily . “It is not closed chapter,” he insisted, saying talks within LDF are crucial . CPI,second-largest party in coalition, has been vocal after LDF's recent election defeat.
Vijayan previously said LDF doesn't have tradition of appointing Deputy Leader of Opposition. Suneer countered that even constitutional norms can change, suggesting traditions shouldn't block progress. He also pointed out CPI's past opposition to PM SHRI initiative during LDF's rule, hinting at pattern of ignoring CPI issues in coalition.
“The main problem is whenever CPI raised issues, they were neither taken seriously nor discussed,” Suneer remarked. He thinks this lack of dialogue hurt coalition in elections. CPI's push for Deputy Leader role is about wanting more engagement and recognition in LDF.
Suneer said CPI won't back down and hopes for discussion soon. He's not alone; senior CPI figures like Binoy Viswam and K. Rajan support the demand too. But CPI(M) leadership mostly quiet, with Vijayan only senior voice addressing issue so far.
Adding to tension,CPI upset over no LDF meetings since election loss. This complicates coalition's internal dynamics . As situation unfolds, CPI's call for dialogue could be key for LDF's future…and its unity.
