Food safety checks by Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Saturday uncovered shocking hygiene breaches at popular Hyderabad spots like Shah Ghouse Hotel and Restaurant and Mehfil Restaurant. Raises big questions about city’s food safety, especially at famed biryani joints .
At Shah Ghouse,inspectors found a mess . Houseflies swarming, grease and dirt everywhere. Non-veg cutting area unsanitary,risking cross-contamination. Open drains clogged with food waste,dirty wash area added to woes. Semi-prepared foods had no labels,water testing records missing. Gutka stains on walls showed poor sanitation.
Mehfil Restaurant in Hitech City wasn't spared either . Inspectors noted cramped kitchen,wet floors littered with food scraps. Rumali roti cooked in an under-construction zone,forcing immediate action by team .
More violations at Palamuru Grill and Bar in Kondapur. Officials found tampered food labels. Stale food,expired mushrooms tossed out,houseflies buzzing in kitchen . Grease,dirt on ceilings and lights worried inspectors. Rusted freezer with water buildup,utensils not sanitized with hot water. No water testing reports available.
At Vijayawada Special Krishna Cafe in Gajularamaram, kitchen partially open,inviting pests. Overflowing,uncovered dustbins near food prep areas,uncovered dough,chutney,vegetables in fridges without labels . Raw materials disorganized,water stagnation near washing area. Iron knives discarded on-site.
Ideal Kitchen in Madhapur also had serious issues. Unwrapped batter,semi-prepared foods in freezers with dead cockroaches. Wet floors covered in food,raw materials on floor,risking contamination. Insects found in stored urad dal.
Finally,J . Vishnu Vardhan Reddy Swagruha Foods cited for open kitchen letting in dust,pests . No system for monitoring Total Polar Compounds in used oil,indicating possible reuse . Raw materials on floor,water stagnation near washing area. Cobwebs,dust,poor lighting,water seepage in storeroom,rat burrows near packing area,sugar beetles in jaggery.
These inspection results scream for better hygiene in Hyderabad's eateries. CMC's actions may lead to more scrutiny on food safety rules…but will things really change?
