Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi won't be in Canada for World Cup match against Germany this weekend . No travel authorization, said Ivorian Football Federation (FIF). Comes after his link to a French sports corruption probe.
French authorities looking into odd betting around yellow card Wahi got playing for Nice last month . He's not officially a suspect, but Marseille prosecutor's office said a 23-year-old Ligue 1 player was arrested May 29. It's part of a larger investigation into organized fraud, sports corruption, stolen goods, money laundering.
Wahi, who was key in Ivory Coast's 1-0 win over Ecuador in their World Cup opener Monday, stays in U.S . while team heads home. FIF gave no more details. Wahi couldn't be reached for comment.
This could mean trouble for both Wahi and Ivorian team as they juggle international play and ongoing investigations. With World Cup moving forward, focus now on how team handles this twist…
