Four-year-old girl from Thalakkulathoor in Kozhikode district lost her fight with shigellosis Saturday morning at Institute of Maternal and Child Health in Government Medical College Hospital. She'd been treated for fever,diarrhea since June 1,after sudden symptoms flared up following meal outside on May 30 .

Family initially took her to two private hospitals nearby,then moved her to Government Hospital for Women and Children in Kottaparamba on June 1. Her condition got worse. She was then transferred to IMCH,where she remained in intensive care until she passed.

To tackle outbreak,health workers began chlorinating water sources in Thalakkulathoor. Awareness sessions were held to inform community about infection risks. Same day girl's death was reported,health officials confirmed two-year-old from Pantheerankavu,treated for shigellosis,was discharged June 2. Meanwhile,10-year-old from Purameri still receiving treatment after late May admission.
