Andhra Pradesh government is moving to secure fair prices for tobacco farmers. Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said a minimum procurement price of ₹200 per kilogram will be enforced after a review meeting with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Farmers worried about financial hits from rejected tobacco at centers . To tackle this,Chief Minister told companies to stick to new minimum price to stop distress sales. Minister stressed transparency in procurement,ordering officials to use auction platforms run by Tobacco Board. Aim is to cut unauthorized deals that hurt farmers.
Ravi Kumar also said rising production shouldn't mean lower prices for farmers. Government will keep a close eye on procurement to make sure growers get fair pay. He noted higher prices last season led farmers to boost cultivation this year. And he urged companies not to blame increased cigarette taxes for rejecting tobacco or cutting back purchases…
