Universities in Hong Kong and mainland China climbing global rankings, while over 70% of U.S. institutions slip, per latest South China Morning Post analysis. UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) shows Asian universities on the rise .
QS found 73% of U.S. universities dropped in rankings over five years, with eight falling out of top 200. This points to growing academic excellence spread across more regions, not just a few Western strongholds.
Chinese universities benefit from more research funding, focus on innovation and regional clout. QS says Asian rise will continue, but Western schools won't be displaced overnight. "Global higher education is now more competitive, geographically diverse, and defined by many centers of excellence," firm stated.
The slip of U.S. universities, once seen as top of the heap, signals big shift in global academic power. But QS notes it's not just about West's slip — it's about new academic powerhouses emerging worldwide .
