The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecast predicting significant rainfall across Karnataka over next few days, marking a welcome change after a prolonged dry spell in the region. Under a yellow alert, areas such as Bidar, Kalaburagi,Yadgir, Vijayapura, Raichur,Bagalkote, Koppal, Belagavi, Dharwad,Haveri, and Uttara Kannada are likely to experience heavy rainfall in the coming 48 hours. The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity will persist across these regions, enhancing southwest monsoon's impact.
From June 27 to June 30, widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are anticipated across coastal Karnataka,North Interior Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka. Bengaluru is also expected to see cloudy weather, with light to moderate rainfall and wind speeds reaching 30–40 km/h in isolated areas. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the Arabian Sea due to the potential for rough sea conditions . This weather pattern is expected to significantly impact local agriculture and daily life,as the region has been grappling with deficit in rainfall since the onset of the monsoon season.
As the monsoon gains momentum, the forecasted rainfall is seen as a crucial development for the agricultural sector, which relies heavily on the southwest monsoon for irrigation and crop growth. The IMD's predictions are closely monitored by farmers and local authorities alike,as they prepare for the potential impacts of the incoming weather.
