India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert for Kannur and Kasaragod districts, effective Monday, June 29, 2026. This means potential for very heavy rainfall, with expected precipitation between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm over 24 hours. After that, alert will extend to Kozhikode,Wayanad,Kannur, and Kasaragod on Tuesday, then back to Kannur and Kasaragod on Wednesday.
Besides orange alert,yellow alert has been declared for several other districts. Monday sees Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki,Ernakulam,Thrissur,Palakkad,Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad under this caution. Heavy rainfall expected,between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
Tuesday,yellow alert covers Idukki,Ernakulam, Thrissur,Palakkad, and Malappuram. Next day, it applies to Thrissur, Malappuram,Kozhikode, and Wayanad. Thursday brings alert to Malappuram, Kozhikode,Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) urges residents in landslide-prone areas,those near riverbanks or downstream of dams,to evacuate if advised.
