Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority (KSPCA) wants special welfare measures for pregnant women in police force. In letter to Director-General and Inspector-General of Police,KSPCA member Mohan Kumar Danappa pushed for skipping weekly parade duties and mandatory weekly days off for these personnel.

KSPCA's suggestions arise from concerns over challenges faced by expectant mothers in law enforcement . Danappa noted police work often demands round-the-clock commitment, risking health of mothers and unborn children. He urged women officers with kids under three not work night shifts, pointing to childcare as a key issue.

Danappa acknowledged weekly parades and drills are crucial for discipline and fitness. But argued strenuous activities could endanger pregnant officers. He suggested these women be spared from physically tough assignments, like rallies, protests,or loud environments, unless emergencies call for it.

Citing similar policies by Chandigarh Police,KSPCA pressed Karnataka Police to draft guidelines prioritizing well-being of women personnel and families. This push for change shows growing awareness of need for humane approach to challenges faced by pregnant women in police force…
