Kerala State Human Rights Commission has ordered rehab for a tribal woman and her eight daughters, living under tarpaulin in forest. This directive came from Commission Chair Justice Alexander Thomas,after report on their dire situation in Manjathodu, near Lahai.

Commission told Pathanamthitta District Collector to check family's land ownership . Tahsildar will find out if they have title deed or legal rights to land. If eligible,they might get housing help through Life Mission scheme or other programs. Meanwhile,Collector must arrange temporary shelter in government facility.

Besides housing,Collector will look into enrolling kids in residential school. This means working with local officials like district tribal development officer,district education officer. If mother agrees to boarding school,suitable places in district will be found. Headmaster of Kisumam Government Higher Secondary School will be contacted to ensure kids get textbooks,uniforms.

Collector has one month to submit full report. Revenue Divisional Officer will stand in for Collector at Commission's next session at PWD Rest House in Tiruvalla. But what happens if family isn't eligible…?
