New counter now open at Law Court complex in Malalavadi,Mysuru, giving public 50% rebate on traffic violation penalties. Launched Saturday by Principal District and Sessions Judge Ms. Usha Rani, it encourages motorists to grab discount on fines dating back to 1991.
Judge Rani stressed following traffic rules,warning that violations can cause serious accidents,even deaths. She urged drivers to use this chance to clear outstanding fines . Part of broader effort to tackle backlog of unpaid violations in region.
To make payments easier, Mysuru City Police set up booths at all 18 civil police stations and five traffic stations in city. Extra counters at old Law Courts complex near Mysuru Zilla Panchayat . Online payment option too,offering many ways to settle fines.
Currently, 45 devices in action to speed up payment process during promo period from June 21 to July 10. Tackling massive backlog: over 1.04 crore violations in Mysuru City,more than ₹450 crore in unpaid fines. Mysuru district police face over 36.73 lakh cases,more than ₹184 crore owed.
A police official pointed out some vehicles have 40-50 pending violations. By June 24,rebate collected ₹67.69 lakh in Mysuru City,clearing 27,357 cases. By June 26,district police recovered ₹3.47 lakh,clearing 1,370 cases.
Authorities urge motorists with unpaid fines to seize this limited-time offer to clear records before deadline. Rebate aims to ease financial burden on drivers,promote safer driving across region. But will enough take action before time runs out…?
