Nvidia unveiled its new AI chip, the RTX Spark,at annual GTC event in Taipei, promising a big upgrade for personal computing. Major brands like Microsoft and Dell will use this chip in their upcoming laptops and desktops . CEO Jensen Huang made it clear this chip could change the game for PCs .
The RTX Spark combines CPU and GPU functions, changing how personal computers will work. Huang called it a reinvention of PC,saying,"This is going to be the new PC." These "AI personal computers" are set to hit the market this fall.
Developed with Taiwan's MediaTek, the RTX Spark will appear in compact desktops from brands like HP, Lenovo, ASUS,and MSI,with more models from Acer and GIGABYTE on the way. Users will be able to run AI agents locally, improving their computing experience.
Huang talked about how these AI agents could help users with tasks like research and file management . "When it has an autonomous [AI] agent... you could talk to it," he said, pointing out the interactive possibilities. Microsoft also confirmed that PCs with Nvidia's new chips would handle complex AI tasks.
Nvidia's timing is key, as interest in personal AI agents is growing. Lian Jye Su,chief analyst at Omdia, said this gives consumers more options, which is a win. Neil Shah, co-founder of Counterpoint Research, called the announcement revolutionary, predicting these new PCs will bring AI into everyday life.
During the event,Huang also introduced Nvidia's new Vera CPUs for data centers, now in full production. He said these CPUs would be a major growth driver for Nvidia, with initial customers including OpenAI and SpaceX. The company also showcased humanoid robot prototype, the "Isaac GR00T," aimed at research, especially in higher education. This robot stands about 1.83 meters tall and has dexterous hands developed by Singapore's Sharpa.
Reactions to the AI PCs have varied. HP claimed these devices boosted quarterly sales, while Dell noted demand fell short earlier this year . Competing chipmaker Qualcomm is also entering the AI PC space, looking to grab a piece of the growing market.
On Wall Street,Nvidia's stock jumped nearly 4% after the announcement, with Microsoft and Dell seeing gains of 2.5% and 9.3%,respectively. Meanwhile, competitors AMD and Intel saw their stocks drop, with AMD down 0.1% and Intel off 2.5% since the market opened .
