Residents in Visakhapatnam got some relief Thursday when rain hit city,dropping temperatures after days of intense heat. The rain started late Wednesday and kept up off and on all day,cutting through the humidity that had been stifling the area.
Dark clouds rolled in over coast,changing the skyline fast and hinting at weather shift . Cyclone Warning Centre noted a big temperature drop — Waltair hit a high of 30°C,which is 5.8°C cooler than Wednesday's 35.8°C. Minimum temperature fell too,down to 25.4°C from 30°C. Station recorded 9.4 mm of rain,humidity at 87%.
Visakhapatnam Airport saw similar changes . Max temperatures went from 35.6°C to 30.6°C. Minimums fell to 26.2°C from 30.2°C, with 2.4 mm of rain and 85% humidity. But some low-lying areas flooded, traffic slowed on several roads.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says a trough from east Vidarbha to Tamil Nadu, through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at 0.9 km above sea level,is cause. IMD predicts light to moderate rain or thundershowers in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh,including Visakhapatnam,next three days. Isolated thunderstorms with gusts 40-50 km/h also expected.
Forecast shows possible isolated heat-wave Thursday,Friday. IMD warns of hot,humid breaks during rain gaps. But for now,people enjoying cooler,drizzly weather along Beach Road…
