Russia might soon step back onto international football stage,as it eyes participation in FIFA's first U-15 World Cup set for October in Azerbaijan. If it happens,it's a big deal for Russian football. Would be first FIFA tournament for them since ban after Ukraine invasion in February 2022.
FIFA announced U-15 World Cup and Festival open to all member associations. This after lifting suspension on Russia's U-17 boys’ and girls’ teams in 2023. But Russian teams skipped U-17 tournaments from FIFA and UEFA. Europe boycotts continue,led by Ukraine,England and others .
FIFA says inaugural U-15 event will have boys’ teams from all members. Second edition in 2027 will focus only on girls’ teams. By 2028,both boys’ and girls’ U-15 teams to compete in their own contests.
Tournament kicks off October 22,runs nine days,ends October 30. Could mean Russia slowly regains footing in international football. But with tensions still high…
