Valery Karpin, head coach of Russia's national football team, earned praise from Russian Football Union (RFU) for steering through tough times . Under him,the team notched wins in friendlies against Nicaragua (3-1),Burkina Faso (3-0),and Trinidad and Tobago (3-0). But they hit snag with a goalless draw against Mali and a narrow 0-1 loss to Egypt.
RFU president Alexander Dyukov voiced satisfaction with Karpin's work, noting major restructuring of national squad over past four years. “We are pleased with Mr. Karpin’s efforts,” Dyukov said, pointing to emergence of new player generation. He talked about evaluating young talent while main squad saw notable changes, building solid core.
Dyukov admitted challenges of keeping momentum without official matches. Russian clubs and national teams have been sidelined from international contests since 2022 due to Ukraine situation. Despite all this,he credited Karpin for maintaining competitiveness.
“Every player arrives with great enthusiasm,” Dyukov noted. While wins aren't a given, the players' commitment stands out. Fans feel national pride, shown by strong match attendance and high TV ratings. “Valery Karpin’s achievements in this context are truly commendable,” he concluded. But what lies ahead for Russian football…?
