Skoda has unveiled Peaq, an electric SUV designed to cater to family needs, but American consumers will not have the opportunity to purchase it. This model, which aims to be the flagship of the brand, showcases blend of spaciousness, advanced technology, and impressive autonomy, yet it will not be available in the U.S. market.
Measuring 4.87 meters in length with nearly three-meter wheelbase, the Peaq is Skoda's largest offering to date. The vehicle's interior is designed to comfortably seat up to seven passengers, making it particularly appealing for families. For those who opt for five seats, cargo capacity expands to a remarkable 935 liters, positioning it as a leader in its category. Additionally, a 37-liter front compartment enhances storage options, a feature increasingly common in electric vehicles .
The Peaq prioritizes passenger comfort with its optional Relax package, which transforms the cabin into a haven for long journeys. Features include massage and ventilated seats, ergonomic footrests, special pillows, and a folding table . A dedicated well-being application and a premium sound system, developed in collaboration with Sonos, further enhance the driving experience, boasting 16 speakers and 755 watts of power .
In terms of performance, Skoda offers the Peaq with various mechanical configurations and two battery sizes. standout option features 91 kWh battery, the largest ever installed in a Skoda production model. This configuration allows SUV to achieve over 640 kilometers of range positioning it competitively against leading electric vehicles in Europe.
Another innovative aspect is the inclusion of bidirectional charging, enabling users to power external devices or even supply electricity to home in specific scenarios. The Peaq's power options range from 150 to 300 horsepower, with choices for rear- or all-wheel drive, catering to diverse driver preferences. It also boasts a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kilograms, appealing to those who require the ability to haul trailers, boats,or motorhomes.
Safety features are a priority for Skoda, which has integrated comprehensive suite of driving assistants in the Peaq. These include collision avoidance systems, turn assist, junction assist, predictive adaptive cruise control, and advanced environmental monitoring. The Travel Assist 3.0 system, regarded as the most sophisticated driving aid package from Skoda to date,is also available to customers.
Despite its impressive attributes, the Peaq's absence from the U.S. market raises questions about the brand's strategy in a region increasingly focused on electric mobility. As European manufacturers ramp up their electric vehicle offerings, the Peaq stands out as a notable omission for American buyers seeking family-friendly electric options.
