U.P. Rajeev has been appointed as the new Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram. Previously serving as Associate Director for Research and Development at the same institution,Dr . Rajeev brings a wealth of expertise in rocket control and guidance to his new role.
His extensive background includes leading mission designs and simulations for significant launch vehicles developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Dr. Rajeev's career began at VSSC, where he has made substantial contributions to the field of space technology.
Hailing from Pathanapuram in Kollam district,Dr. Rajeev completed his undergraduate studies in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation at College of Engineering in Thiruvananthapuram . He furthered his education with postgraduate degree from the National Institute of Technology in Kozhikode and earned his PhD from the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.
Dr. Rajeev is the son of Unnikrishnan Nair and Padmakshi Amma. He is married to Asha P. Nair,a senior scientist at VSSC, and they have a daughter named Parvathy Nair . His appointment is expected to enhance the centre's capabilities in advancing India's space exploration initiatives.
