Telangana Government is putting focus on residents in huts as it kicks off second phase of Indiramma Indlu (Housing) Scheme. Goal: eliminate hut dwellings statewide. During video conference with Housing Department officials, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said those who missed out on earlier housing aid can now apply through Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO).
First phase gave ₹5 lakh to landowners for house construction. Now,big expansion: 2.5 lakh houses allocated, with 2,000 houses going to each of 119 Assembly constituencies. Minister Reddy stressed transparency in picking beneficiaries, directing officials to prioritize hut dwellers first.
About 75,000 people reported living in huts during Praja Palana drive. To identify real beneficiaries,a thorough survey will be done. MPDOs to verify applications, compile list for in-charge ministers' approval .
Second phase also targets families under unsafe roofs like stone slabs, tarpaulin, metal sheets. They'll get ₹2 lakh for reinforced concrete roofs, with plans to support 500 such houses per constituency, totaling 50,000 statewide .
Minister also noted incomplete constructions from previous phases like Indiramma might be included in roof upgradation scheme. Fresh inspection planned to find these houses. Reddy mentioned LIG house designs in urban areas should meet needs for next 50 years…but will they?
