Telangana Prisons Department,partnering with HYDRAA and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL),kicked off the Cherlapalli Lake Restoration and Development Project Tuesday. A ceremonial Bhumi Pooja marked start of efforts aimed at boosting water conservation and environmental sustainability.
Inaugurated by Soumya Mishra,Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services,the event drew Uppal MLA Bandari Lakshma Reddy,senior prison officials, and HYDRAA and IOCL reps. Project seeks to improve lake's management, crucial for local water security and groundwater recharge .
Restoration plan covers several activities: cleaning lake's inlet and adjacent areas, building silt collection chamber to cut sediment inflow, restoring inlet channel for better water flow. Also aims to reinforce embankment with gravel to stop erosion,install solar lights along lake bund pathway .
Lake area now a plastic-free zone,boosting sustainable management practices. Mishra said rejuvenated lake will serve nearby communities and Prison Agricultural Colony, Cherlapalli Central Prison by fostering greenery,ecological balance .
Inmates from Open Air Prison will play big role in restoration, gaining skills while contributing. This involvement boosts their self-esteem and responsibility. Mishra noted eligible inmates could get roles in lake protection and security post-release, aiding rehabilitation and reintegration.
Safety and integrity of lake will be ensured with CCTV cameras linked to Cherlapalli Central Prison for monitoring. This approach aims to protect water body while promoting community engagement…
