Schools across Telangana swung open doors Monday, kicking off 2026–27 academic year after summer break. Government,aided,private institutions brought students back to classrooms, restarting regular academic routines.
Originally set for June 12, reopening got pushed to June 15 after requests from various stakeholders. Officials said change was to help smoother transition into new year,since June 13 and 14 were a weekend.
Schools took extensive steps to prep for students' return. Classrooms were spruced up,essential facilities like drinking water,sanitation systems put in place. Teachers,staff finalized academic,administrative plans for smooth start.
Reopening day saw enthusiastic turnout. Parents accompanied younger kids,schools held orientation activities to ease students back. Vibrant decorations — rangoli,balloons,paper crafts — set festive scene.
Ponnam Prabhakar,Minister for Transport and Backward Classes,launched Breakfast & Milk scheme at Raj Bhavan Government High School in Hyderabad. Program aims to aid 29 lakh students in government schools statewide.
₹740 crore allocated for scheme, tackling hunger,malnutrition,boosting attendance,concentration,academic performance. Covers pre-primary 1 to Class XII, as pre-primary education debuts this year.
Weekly breakfast menu varies. Monday: dosa with chutney or chapati with curry and milk. Tuesday: millet idlis with ragi java and sambar. Wednesday: puris with aloo kurma and milk. Thursday: millet idlis with sambar and ragi java. Friday: millet upma or pongal with chutney and milk. Saturday: bondas with chutney and ragi java.
First phase includes 45 out of 672 government schools in Hyderabad district. Of 93,501 students,12,437 get breakfast and milk. Aiming to improve student welfare…will it make a lasting impact?
