Residents of Tirupattur demand urgent infrastructure upgrades: a new Rail Over Bridge (ROB),a fruit pulp factory, and desilting of local water bodies. S.S.P. Syed Farooq Basha, IUML Legislative Party Leader and MLA for Vaniyambadi, voiced these pleas during a motion of thanks to Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in State Assembly.
The ROB would replace the manned railway level crossing (LC 81) near Vaniyambadi station. Basha stressed this bridge is a long-standing need, crucial for better access for residents of 31 nearby villages. Right now, railway crossing splits Vaniyambadi into two: Old Town, packed with people and home to three colleges, and New Town, near Chennai - Bengaluru Highway (NH 48),where key public services are.
Motorists face big delays at level crossing, forced into detours of at least five kilometers to reach vital spots like government taluk hospital and banks. Ambulances get stuck too, waiting to move patients to hospital just 500 meters away .
Another pressing community demand, especially from farmers,is a fruit pulp factory . The area, famous for mango groves, includes Tirupattur, Jolarpet,Kandali, and Alangayam . Basha suggested using government land in Kumarakuppu village, once meant for a sandalwood factory in 1977, for this project.
Water scarcity is another major issue in dry Tirupattur district, especially in summer. Basha proposed desilting several key water bodies, like Udayendiram,Nagaleri,Rama Naicken Pettai, and Goyindapuram. This could boost rainwater storage during monsoon, recharge local groundwater.
MLA also called for digging a pond at Azhagu Perumal temple in Periyapet, using 1.5 acres of temple land for water conservation . These projects,he argued, are vital for improving residents' quality of life…
