US President Donald Trump is contemplating the cancellation of a series of concerts scheduled for Washington’s National Mall, marking nation’s 250th anniversary. This decision comes after multiple artists withdrew from the lineup, prompting Trump to consider replacing the concerts with a political rally and speech.
The concerts were part of the Great American State Fair, a 16-day event set to run from June 25 to July 10, 2026. The fair, organized by the Freedom 250 group, was intended to feature concert stages, state pavilions, exhibits, rides, and various attractions stretching from the US Capitol to the Washington Monument . However, the musical lineup has faced significant setbacks.
On Friday,Bret Michaels, lead singer of the rock band Poison, became the fifth artist to withdraw, citing concerns that the event was not non-partisan celebration he had anticipated. While organizers have not publicly addressed the reasons behind the artists' departures, the situation has raised doubts about event's feasibility as originally planned.
In a social media post on Saturday,Trump remarked that if performers continue to pull out, the concert series might no longer be necessary. He asserted his own appeal, claiming he could be a bigger draw than "Elvis in his prime," suggesting that a rally could serve as a more effective alternative.
