Districts of Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai brace for southwest monsoon, expected soon in nearby Kerala . Review meeting led by Collectors focused on readiness of departments like Revenue,Health,Water Resources (WRD). Officials strategized for monsoon challenges.
K. Ravikumar,Tirupattur Collector,said preventive steps in waterlogging areas are in place. Emergency supplies like wood cutters,sandbags,ropes are ready for quick action . "Adequate stocks of wood cutters, sandbags, snake catchers,ropes and utilities were also kept ready for emergency purposes," he noted .
Recent summer showers have upped rainfall across region,especially in Jawadhu Hills areas like Jolarpet and Yelagiri Hills in Tirupattur, Amirthi Zoo in Vellore,Polur in Tiruvannamalai. This has raised water levels in ponds,streams,lakes,helping farmers with irrigation.
WRD officials are inspecting tank shutters,bunds . Weak or damaged bunds to be reinforced,shutters under repair. Heavy machinery like earthmovers on standby for relief,rescue in vulnerable spots.
Community centers,marriage halls getting upgrades with new water lines,better ventilation to house displaced persons . Field staff told to stay alert,respond to rain complaints from residents. Monsoon's approach demands coordinated effort...
