A 35-year-old woman was seriously injured by shark bite at Coogee Beach,Sydney Saturday morning . New South Wales Police said emergency services rushed to the scene,where bystanders were already giving first aid after pulling her from water.
She suffered major injuries to arm and leg,then was airlifted to hospital for urgent care. Several nearby beaches closed as precaution after incident.
Eyewitness Nicola Logan described chaos,seeing a "massive pool of blood" in water . She saw woman signaling for help amid splashing,while ski paddler tried to rescue her .
This comes after a male diver was killed by suspected 4.5-meter shark near Perth,Western Australia. Shark attacks common in Australia,with nearly 1,300 since 1791 and over 260 fatalities. Yet most aren't fatal.
