Yutaka Toyoshima finds himself in a precarious position as he heads into the final round of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Mid-Amateur Championship at Gunung Geulis Country Club in Bogor,West Java. After a commanding start with a 66,Toyoshima's second-round score of 74 has narrowed his lead to just two strokes over three challengers, setting the stage for an intense final day .
With a total score of two-under 140, Toyoshima leads compatriot Hiroki Chino,along with Indonesians Zachary Kristian and Alit Jiwandana,who are all vying for title. Toyoshima,a five-time Japan Mid-Amateur champion,acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining his lead on the challenging course. He remarked,“A two-shot lead is not significant on this course,” citing several mistakes that led to six bogeys during his second round.
Chino, 57,expressed surprise at his position in the tournament, noting that this is his first appearance at the APGC Mid-Amateur Championships. “It’s a little overwhelming,” he said,acknowledging Toyoshima's prowess. Meanwhile,Jiwandana, 36,hopes to leverage his experience, having previously played alongside Toyoshima. He finished with an even-par 71,the best round of the day alongside Indian golfer Raj Randhawa.
Kristian,at 27, is one of the younger competitors and showed promise with a strong finish in round two, including a birdie on the par-three 16th. His performance suggests he will not back down easily. Another young player, Luke Moore, the reigning club champion, is also in contention despite a round marred by missed opportunities . Moore, who turned 25 last month, expressed frustration over his performance, particularly on the par-fives.

The APGC Mid-Amateur Championships,hosted by the Indonesia Golf Association,feature competitors aged 25 and older, with a total of nine countries represented . The tournament is divided into four age groups, and divisional leaders include Kristian, Jiwandana, Randhawa, and Toyoshima.
Adding to the competitive atmosphere, the top players are also competing in a team event,where best two scores from each team of three are counted. Indonesia 1 leads this team competition with a score of 284,followed by Japan 1 and Japan 2. The champions of individual tournament will receive Yapto Suryosoemarno Cup, donated by the Chairman of the Indonesia Golf Association.
