Blurgs AI,startup launched by IIT Madras grads Roshan Raj Mohanty and Avinash Kori, just grabbed $2.2 million to widen its reach and boost global presence. Pravega Ventures and Shastra VC led the round,with angel investors like Suraj Nalin of PlaySimple Games and Yashwanth Madhusudhan of Fyle pitching in.

Targeting maritime and defence,Blurgs AI plans to use this cash to push beyond military uses. Mohanty said they've worked with Indian Navy and defence for years. Now, they'll dive into ports,shipyards,and fisheries, eyeing West Asia and Southeast Asia expansion.

"These regions are key trade routes," Mohanty pointed out. "We're already international with clients in Dubai and Indonesia." Their tech boosts port efficiency, fitting more vessels in same time and space. In fisheries, it's all about sustainable practices and protecting fishermen's livelihoods.

They're already working with Mumbai Port and VOC Port in India,plus teaming up with Indonesian government for fisheries support. Solutions ensure regulation compliance and prioritize fisher safety.

Starting late 2020, Blurgs AI grew to 40 employees,planning to add 30 more as they scale. "We launched in 2023, bootstrapped and profitable five years. First external funding," Mohanty said .

Blurgs AI serves critical organizations like Indian Coast Guard, Bharat Electronics, DRDO Labs, and international clients such as Dubai Maritime City and The Nature Conservancy Group. Their tech offers operational intel for ports, fleets,shipyards, and fisheries,ensuring real-time visibility and performance optimization .

In defence,Blurgs AI excels in threat detection and adversary monitoring, boosting situational awareness . Pravega Ventures noted India's coastline's strategic importance,saying, "Climate change and geopolitics make maritime intelligence vital." They back Blurgs AI's broad approach to port, shipyard, fishery,and defence challenges.

Vasant Rao from Shastra VC stressed software's rising role in maritime infrastructure. "The bottleneck is decision intelligence, not data," he said . Blurgs AI aims to create the intelligence layer needed to turn fragmented data into actionable insights for quick, informed responses.
