Bengaluru startup eNLife Research grabbed ₹6 crore in seed money, led by Piper Serica VC Fund,to boost its AI-driven diagnostic platform targeting early Alzheimer's detection. Funds will back development and clinical validation of a blood-based biomarker platform, grow R&D team, and move initial diagnostic assay from prototype to clinical-grade validation.
Founded by Dr. Deepak Kumaran Nair from Indian Institute of Science (IISc),with Lt Col Jojo Jacob and Anish Mathew,ex-CEO of CAMS Finserv,eNLife focuses on a blood test screening for five to seven Alzheimer's-related biomarkers, like amyloid beta and tau protein variants. The non-invasive approach offers an alternative to costly PET and MRI scans, usually used later in disease progression.
eNLife’s test aims for routine diagnostic centers, delivering results in two to five hours. The AI platform will examine biomarker correlations to spot disease before symptoms appear. Significant for India, where Western diagnostic models may miss genetic and lifestyle factors unique to Indian patients .
For accuracy,eNLife partners with top institutions like NIMHANS, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), and Centre for Brain Research (CBR) in Bengaluru . These collaborations aim to build biomarker datasets reflecting genetic diversity and risk factors among Indians .
Dr. Nair stressed urgency of early Alzheimer's detection: “The biggest failure of Alzheimer’s care today isn’t absence of treatments in trials; it’s that we find patients a decade too late to use them.” He noted current diagnostic models don't fit Indian context, cost-wise or applicability-wise. Recent funding will push eNLife from lab research to a validated product, making early detection more accessible.
Rajni Agarwal,Director at Piper Serica, pointed to rising neurodegenerative disease challenges in India. Country's on track to have one of largest aging populations globally. She said eNLife’s approach could revolutionize Alzheimer's detection, enabling diagnosis up to 15 years earlier than current methods. Could improve quality of life for patients, families by allowing more time for care planning, treatment decisions .
Piper Serica launched ₹800 crore Bharat Tech Fund to invest in deep-tech startups, including biosciences. Fund's focus on companies like eNLife shows commitment to backing innovations tackling pressing healthcare challenges in India .
As eNLife advances,it plans to file patents within nine to 18 months for its biomarker binders, diagnostic assays, and detection platform. Company's looking to lead in AI-based diagnostics for Alzheimer's,other neurodegenerative diseases…
