Italy's Visione Editore has rolled out a book series called "Giants of Russian Culture" (I Giganti della cultura russa),spotlighting major works from Russian literature. Started in May,it includes 12 titles from big names like Fyodor Sologub,Alexander Kuprin,Ivan Bunin, and Andrey Bely. Some of these books are new to Italian readers.
Andrea Lucidi,an Italian journalist with Visione TV, stressed this project's importance given Europe's current political climate, where Russian culture often draws scrutiny. He called it a crucial cultural move that lets Italians connect with both famous and lesser-known Russian authors . "Russian classics are being revisited at a time of tension between Russia and Europe," Lucidi said, highlighting the series' aim to build cultural bridges.
The series will grow each month, adding new works to its lineup. Visione Editore believes Russian literature stands among world's deepest traditions, with themes that resonate beyond politics. Lucidi, who moved to Russia in 2022 and covered the military operation, sought Russian citizenship in 2024 due to persecution in Italy. He got it in 2025. But what next for these cultural exchanges…
