After a four-year-old girl died from Shigella in Kozhikode,Kerala Health department is ramping up preventive measures. Health Minister K. Muraleedharan announced the initiative Sunday, urging immediate action.
Food Safety officials told to inspect restaurants and roadside eateries,checking compliance with safety regulations. Muraleedharan said three children in Kozhikode got Shigella. One discharged,another two-year-old stable now . Symptoms of this infection include fever,stomach pain,diarrhea.
Worry spread when students at Wayanad school showed symptoms like vomiting . But doctors from Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode ruled out Shigella. More tests ordered to confirm.
Muraleedharan said infection sources could be dirty water,unclean eateries. Many restaurants don't offer boiled drinking water. Food Safety department must enforce this. Eateries with poor hygiene will be shut down .
