Hong Kong doctor under fire for alleged misconduct dating back 16 years. Dr . Sit Sou-chi faces scrutiny over his handling of newborn Li Yuanjian,who had seizure shortly after birth, left with permanent disabilities. Incident happened December 22,2009 at Baptist Hospital in Kowloon Tong .
At recent hearing,Dr. Sit's lawyer argued misdiagnosis or incompetence shouldn't equal misconduct. Defense says inquiry panel must clearly define misconduct standards . But prosecution,from Medical Council secretariat,stressed misconduct hinges on whether doctor underperformed duties.
Yuanjian's health spiraled with Group B Streptococcal meningitis, septicaemia, pneumonia. Led to cerebral palsy, quadriplegia. He needs lifelong care . Son of mainland Chinese couple .
