Kerala government plans to construct new spillway at Thottappally in Alappuzha,tackling issues with aging structure . Water Resources Minister Mons Joseph confirmed this after local MLA G. Sudhakaran raised concerns about inadequate water discharge .
Joseph said government examined the spillway's issues closely . Necessary measures will boost water discharge efficiency and ensure estuary can fully open. Minister added that renovation and construction for existing spillway will use modern tech once all procedures are complete .
A preliminary investigation for new spillway,upstream of current one,is done. Findings sent to Irrigation Design and Research Board (IDRB) for design process. Steps now taken to finalize design with field officers . Government's addressing region's urgent water management needs…
