Telangana's government has set up a committee to explore international medical tourism in public hospitals. This move ties into state’s Tourism Policy for 2025–2030,prioritizing Medical and Wellness Tourism as key growth area.
On June 6, Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu issued a Government Order (GO) outlining committee's formation. Group will assess feasibility of launching international medical tourism services in government healthcare facilities. Recommendations are due in a month.
Committee has three members: Gaurav Uppal,Managing Director of Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC); P. Gouthami,Managing Director of Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC); and Dr. Nagari Bheerappa,former Director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
Main task for committee: set up International Medical Tourism Block at Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Sanathnagar. Also,they'll pinpoint medical,surgical, diagnostic procedures for international patients and suggest pricing for these services.
Committee will also propose support services for international patients. This includes language translation,customized dietary options,attendant services to enhance experience for overseas visitors. Strategies for boosting international medical tourism will be developed with Telangana Medical and Wellness Tourism Promotion Board . But will it all come together as planned…?
